Our past has shaped the present by many things in history including sports, here is how sports marked our history today.

Baseball

  • In 1883 Hugh Daily, a one-armed pitcher for Cleveland (Forest City), tosses 1-0 no-hitter against Philadelphia.

Football

  • In 1981 the Atlanta Falcons tie record of 31 points in the th quarter (vs Green Bay).

Golf

  • In 1930 at the Men’s PGA Championship American based Scotsman Tommy Armour defeats Gene Sarazen 1-up in the final for the second of his 3 major titles.

Hockey

  • In 1997 Carolina Hurricane’s play their first exhibition game beating the New York Islanders 4-1.

Miscellaneous

  • In 1934 Judge Landis sells World Series broadcast rights to Ford for $100,000.

Olympics

  • In 1983 the US mint strikes the first gold coin in 50 years, Olympic Eagle.
