The Legion conference season swung back into action Tuesday as the Missoula Mavericks jumped on the bus and headed East to play the Miners in Butte, and the two teams would split the day.

In the first game each team struggled defensively giving opportunity for six runs earned combined between the two teams. For the Mavericks it is was one of their aces in Brendon Hill that stood on top the pitchers mound and Hill delivered once he worked through the first inning. Defensively the Mavs struggled in the opening frame, giving up a pair of errors on back to back ground balls hit to third. Mavericks manager Brent Hathaway made a few positional adjustments before the top of the second inning and Missoula settled into tight infield play through the remaining innings.

After the Mavs broke the tie with a pair of runs in the top of the fifth the Miners tossed on their rally caps in the bottom of the sixth after Missoula made a change on the bump, and then held Missoula off in the top of the seventh to earn the conference win.

Game two was a tighter game through the first five innings as the two teams pitchers would consistently mow down batters. allowing minimal hits. The wheels began to come off the Miners bus in the fifth inning when the Mavericks racked up four runs, two of which where earned off wild pitches. Missoula capitalized on the Miners mistakes in the sixth inning, and with confidence under their belts the Mavs went back to work in the final frame to seal the win.

The Mavericks will take to the road this weekend as they head to Canada to play the Medicine Hat Moose Monarchs in a three game series.
