The Lady Spartans basketball team took on the Glacier Lady Wolfpack in the consolation semi-final game Saturday morning that ended the Sentinel season with a 39-26 loss to Glacier.
For most of the opening quarter the two teams kept the game close with the first quarter ending with Sentinel on top 12-10. The Lady Spartans controlled the tempo of the game in the first quarter by working the ball on the perimeter to wait for the open shot.
With a combined 22 points scored in the opening quarter the defenses stepped up in the second quarter with the Lady Spartans holding Glacier to single digits in the second frame. Though Sentinel owned the scoreboard when the half time buzzer went off, it was Glacier who had the higher field goal percentage at 36% to finish the half.
Starting the third quarter down by five the Lady Wolfpack went to work on the boards as they would out rebound Sentinel on the offensive and defensive ends of the court. Controlling the boards Glacier turned their rebounds in to points, holding the Lady Spartans to just two points in the third quarter.
Struggling to find the bottom of the bucket in the third quarter the Sentinel bench kept a heavy rotation of girls looking to find a shooter to keep the Lady Spartans in the game. Recognizing Sentinel was struggling to make shots Glacier tightened up their defense and held the Lady Spartans to just two points in the final quarter to earn the win.
