One of Hellgate high schools student athletes is on their way to Breckenridge Colorado for the U16 National Alpine Skiing Championships this week.
Colin Harper, a Hellgate sophomore that participates on the Whitefish Mountain Race Team, will compete alongside other ski racers ages 14 and 15 from across the United States in such events as the slalom, giant slalom, and super-G events.
In order to qualify for the event Harper had to ski in 14 races between December and March that took place at ski areas across the state of Montana. Harper’s efforts in those events earned him an invitation to the USSA Western Region Alpine Skiing Championship that took place recently in Sun Valley where he competed against the top 16 skiers from across the Western United States.
After a strong finish at the USSA Western Regional Harper earned a place among the other 18 boys from the West to participate in the National Championships
