Lady Spartans Fall Short To Helena

The Sentinel Lady Spartans would come up short in the Class AA State title game against the Western Conference second place Helena Bengals. It would be the relentless play of Helena that would push them to the top of Class AA girls basketball.

Sentinel would enter the tournament as the number one seed and show the state why in their first game of the weekend against the West Lady Golden Bears. The Lady Spartans would hold West to just one point through moist of the first quarter, and to just six points in the first half. Controlling both ends of the floor in the second half Sentinel would pick up a 50-29 win to put them in the Semi Final game the following night.

The Lady Spartans would face a polished group of CMR Rustlers. CMR earned their way to the Semi Final game with a run away win over the Capital Bruins 49-33. With Lexi Deden on the bench the senior Bronwyn McCormich would step up and have a great showing in the paint. The Rustlers would be no no match for Sentinels suffocating defense and the Lady Spartans would push their way into the title game beating CMR 49-33.

The championship game would be a match up between the two power houses of the Western Conference of Class AA girls Basketball. Sentinel would lose their leader Kylie Frohlich in the opening moments of the game to the flue. Helena would find their post player Jamie Pickens in foul trouble late in the second quarter. With the bigs on the bench for both teams, it would become a game of power and finesse from the point position. The game would be taken over by the Bengals point Kamden Hilborn who would not go away. Hilborn would lead the Bengals to the to be crowned the state champions with a 46-41 win over Sentinel.
