The Sentinel Lady Spartans played host to the Helena Bengals in a Montana Class AA Championship game rematch and Sentinel would revenge their loss at state with a 48-43 win.
Both teams came out with a hard hand with the first score not coming until two minutes in the game when Sentinel Junior Emma Blakely found the bottom of the hoop with a kiss off the glass. Once the Lady Spartans dropped their first basket they would roll out and hold off the Bengals for an additional 90 seconds before Helena scored their first bucket. The Lady Spartans ruled the first quarter with their zone defense and out scored the Bengals 12-7.
A five point lead is all the Spartans needed to edge the Lady Bengals as they would maintain the lead through the second quarter to break with a 22-17 advantage at the half. The top two teams in the Class AA girls basketball matched each other for the remaining periods, each scoring 16 points in the third frame, and 10 in the final quarter.
Sentinel and Helena remain at the top of the Class AA Western Conference with each having a 3-1 record. The Lady Spartans will move from the fourth spot in Class AA girl’s basketball to the third spot with an 8-1 overall record. The Spartans will play the number one team in both the Western Conference and in all of Class AA Girl’s basketball in the Capital Bruins Saturday in Helena.
