Mavericks Senior Chris Compton
- Updated: July 23, 2024
Chris Compton- #16
Chris Compton is finishing up his fifth year in a Mavericks uniform. The 6-foot 1-inch, 170 pound right-hand hurler will attend the University of Mary in Bismarck, North Dakota on a baseball scholarship following his senior summer with Missoula. Throughout his five years, Compton has played on all three Maverick squads. His time has featured two years on the “B” team, one year with the “A” squad, and two years on the “AA” team. He also played in the Missoula Mud Dawgs organization for two years prior to his first season with the Mavs.
The standout pitcher was selected to the 2023 All-Conference Montana-Alberta American Legion team before showcasing his stuff in front of scouts at Prep Baseball Report. In the fall he came out running his fastball up in the mid 80’s with 2200 spin rate and a slider at 72-74 mph with over 24000 rpm’s. Compton has recorded over 160 innings pitched for the AA team, and over 400 in the outfield. Not only has he been a go-to conference guy on the mound, but he has a career batting average of .349 and an OBP of .475. Compton has a career ERA of 3.669 and has recorded over 150 strikeouts to just 76 walks with a WHIP of 1.441. “The program here has taught me how to be tough, especially on the mental aspect,” said Compton. “You really learn how much your success relies on how much work you put in and what you want to get out of it, and those are things that really prepare us for the next level of baseball.”
Compton’s favorite memory on the Mavericks is the annual trip to Rapid City and playing in the firework game. He would like to thank his parents, and everyone else that has helped get him to where he is today. “I would like to thank my parents for all of the time and money that they have spent to put me in the position that I am today, and everyone else who has been there to watch and support me as well as all of my coaches and teammates who have guided and pushed me to be the best version of myself.”
