The Missoula Mavericks had their first sunset game of the season as the undefeated Helena Senators made their way to Missoula for the first Wednesday night game of the season for Missoula, and the Mavs sent the Senators home with their first lose of the young season.

Helena showed their offensive capabilities right out of the gate when they earned five runs in the first two frames of the game. Maverick pitcher Brendon Hill took a depth breath to start the third inning and began to mow down the Senators batters one by one. In all Hill would allow five runs off the eight hits, struck out two batters, and walked a single batter in the four innings he pitched.

From the offensive side the Mavs began adding runs steadily in the second inning, keeping a constant flow to the game, with the knock out punch coming in the fifth frame when Missoula scored four runs to take the lead and went on to hold it for the rest of the night. Both teams starting pitchers lasted four innings before the managers began rotating pitcher in per inning, with a combined nine different players to crest the pitchers mound. In the end the Mavericks pitching staff was able to out last Helena’s to give Missoula their fifth straight win, moving the Mavs to 6-3 on the young season.

From the plate the Mavericks where led by right fielder Connor Daniels who went 3-3 from the dish with three runs and three RBI’s. Beau King contributed offensively, the center fielder went 1-2 with three runs and two RBI’s, an as a team Missoula went 8-31 with 10 RBI’s on the game. Despite jumping out to an early lead the Senators where to just 11-40 from the plate with 4 RBI’s.

The Mavericks will refresh their pitching staff before a weekend dual with the Billings Scarlets both Saturday and Sunday.
