Mavs Honor Long Time Voice

The Missoula Mavericks American Legion Baseball team will host their annual Memorial Tournament where they will honor Mavericks that have passed on. The tournament will be played at Lindborg-Cregg Field and games will begin today at 10:00 am and run through Sunday, capped off by the championship game.

The tournament began in 1980 to honor Scott Klaudt who wore the Maverick uniform from 1978 – 1980. A standout player and Hellgate High School graduate Klaudt would pass away at a young age due a car accident and the Mavericks would honor him, sparking a new tradition.

This years tournament has a special meaning as the Mavericks will be celebrating the life of longtime “Voice of the Mavericks” Chris Walterskirchen. The Mavericks will officially dedicate the press box to WalterKirchen in a ceremony tonight during the La Grande versus Mavericks game at 7:00 pm.
