Prep Football Preview 10/23/19

Big Sky @ Flathead

This match up is a battle between single win teams in the Class AA Western Conference. Flathead has one win in conference play that puts them at 1-7 overall and seventh in the Western AA Conference while the Eagles are 1-7 overall but have not been able to find a win in Conference play landing them at the bottom of the West.

Do not count out Big Sky this week as they have been close in all their games this season, struggling to come out of the gate in rhythm, having to play from behind. The Braves on the other hand are a team that is working on learning a new system under a new coach resulting in some growing pains. Expect this game to have some fireworks from both sides as strong defenses work to enforce their will.

Hellgate @ Butte

A battle on Friday night in Butte will see a Hellgate team that is trending in the right direction with promise in the future, and a Bulldog team that has asserted its will on all teams through the AA Western Conference in their first year in the West.

Butte is playing in the Western Conference for the first time in 2019 and has dominated the West through confident play at the quarterback position. The Knights are a team that has built up a strong underclass group that bought into the new system which has resulted in Hellgate being able to hang with the best teams in Montana. Watch Friday night as the Knights will be able to stifle the Bulldogs offense in the first half, but half time adjustments will give Butte the advantage in the end.

Loyola @ Deer Lodge

For the final regular season game of the year the third ranked team in the Class B Western Conference Loyola Rams will hop on the bus and head to Deer Lodge to take on a Powell County  Wardens team that has shown signs of greatness, but have not been able to finish.

Looking at a Wardens team that has found a good rhythm during the season with an offense that has the right play makers on it, but Deer Lodge has not been able to find a way to shut down opposing teams. Loyola on the other hand have found ways to win games despite personnel changes due to injuries, struggling only against the top three teams in Class B football. Expect the Rams to come out and smash the Wardens with an aggressive run game, putting a Wardens team that does not play well from behind on their heals.

Glacier @ Sentinel

On Friday night at MCPS Stadium a battle between two teams that are looking to solidify their spot in the Class AA football postseason as a Wolfpack team that had a slow start to the season hit the town to take on the one of the stoutest defenses in Class AA football in the Spartans.

At 3-3 in conference play, and 4-4 in overall, Glacier did not find it’s stride until after the first third of the season and has been climbing the West rankings with impressive wins due to an offense of play makers. Standing on the other side of the field is a team that is finding ways to win in all three phases of the game while fortifying a championship type offense. As we have come to expect between these two teams the past decade, this game will come down to the wire in dramatic fashion with the Spartans defense being the determining factor in a win.
