With so much attention on boys lacrosse in Montana, girls prep lacrosse has been on the rise in popularity in recent years too, and for the Sentinel girls lacrosse team it will be a little easier to keep the flame alive here in Missoula.
This week the Sentinel girls lacrosse team received a grant from the U.S. Lacrosse First Stick Program which allow the team to buy equipment such as sticks and goalie gear for up to 20 girls. In addition to the equipment the Sentinel club team will be able to waive the U.S. Lacrosse registration fee which is required for all teams that participate under U.S. Lacrosse.
Lacrosse is not recognized by the MHSA in the state of Montana, so there for falls under the club sport category until further notice. Though some prep lacrosse teams use the colors and logo from the area school, all teams in Montana, boys or girls, are required to pay all their own fees, each player is responsible for their own equipment, and must pay for all travel cost out of their own pocket.
The Sentinel girls team is made up of players from not only Sentinel, but also pool players from Big Sky and Loyola. The girls will start their season this weekend as they go on the road to play in Billings.
