Baseball

  • In 1951 Joe Louis scored his last knock out victory

  • In 1947 at the US Open, Lew Worsham defeats Sam Snead by 1 stroke in an 18-hole playoff for his only major title

  • In 1955 The International Olympic Committee votes to award Rome the rights to host the 1960 Summer Olympic Games

NBA

  • In 2003 in the 57th NBA Championship: San Antonio Spurs beat New Jersey Nets, 4 games to 2

NHL

  • In 2011 in the Stanley Cup Final, Boston Bruins defeat Vancouver Canucks, 4-0 for 4-3 series win. With the series win the Bruins end 39-year Stanley Cup drought

Soccer

  • In 2018 in the World Cup, Portugal 3. Spain 3 Cristiano Renaldo scores hat-trick, the 4th player to score in 4 different World Cup’s, and the first to score in 8 consecutive major tournaments

Tennis

  • In 1912 at the Women’s US National Championship Mary Browne beats Eleonora Sears 6-4, 6-2 for her first of 3 straight US singles titles
