  • In 1956 at the  Men’s PGA Championship, Masters champion Jack Burke Jr. wins his second major championship of the season, 3 & 2 over Ted Kroll

  • In 1970 International Law Tennis Association institutes 9 point tie break rule

Olympics

  • In 1908 American Johnny Hayes wins London Olympic marathon in Games record 2:55:18.4 after Dorando Pietri of Italy disqualified for receiving assistance before the finish line
