  • In 1922 at the PGA Championship, 20-year old US Open champion Gene Sarazen defeats Emmet French, 4 & 3 in the final

  • In 1914 Swiss track and road bicycle racer Oscar Egg sets new hour world record of 44.247 km at the outdoor Vélodrome Buffalo in Paris, record stands until 1933

Tennis

  • In 1923 at the US National Championship Women’s Tennis, Helen Wills Moody beats Molla Bjurstedt Mallory 6-2, 6-1 for her first of 7 US singles crowns
