Our past has shaped the present by many things in history including sports, here is how sports marked our history today.

Baseball

  • In 1889 in the first all New York City World Series the NY Giants (NL) play Brooklyn (AA).

Basketball

  • In 1974 Chicago Bull Nate Thurmond becomes the first in the NBA to complete a quadruple double-22 points, 14 rebounds, 13 assists & 12 blocks.

Football

  • In 1902 at the 7th Iron Bowl: Auburn beats Alabama 23-0 in Birmingham.

Hockey

  • In 1995 the Winnipeg Jets sold to Americans who plan to move them to Phoenix.

Miscellaneous

  • In 1968 American long jumper Bob Beamon sets an incredible world record (8.90m, 29′ 2½”) in high altitude at the Mexico City Olympics, 0.55m (22″) improvement over previous world record.
