Baseball
- In 1945 tavern owner “Billy Goat” Sianis buys seat for his goat for Game 4 of Baseball World Series, is escorted out and casts goat curse on Chicago Cubs.
Basketball
- In 1993 after 9 seasons and 3 Championships with the Chicago Bulls, Michael Jordan announces his retirement from the NBA. He returns on March 18, 1995 and leads Bulls to another 3 NBA titles.
Football
- In 1983 the New York Jets announce they are leaving Shea for Meadowlands.
Golf
- In 1928 at the men’s PGA Championship Leo Diegel dominates Al Espinosa, 6 & 5 in the final to win the first of his 2 consecutive titles.
Hockey
- In 1983 Islander’s Mike Bossy’s 25th career hat trick.
Miscellaneous
- In 1857 the first American Chess Congress hosted by the American Chess Association.
