Our past has shaped the present by many things in history including sports, here is how sports marked our history today.

Baseball

  • In 1979 Daniel Okrent sketches out the first draft rules for Rotisserie Baseball on a flight to Austin, TX.

Basketball

  • In 1981 NY Knick Bill Cartwright ties record of 19 of 19 free throws.

Boxing

  • In 1884 the cops arrest boxer John L Sullivan in his 2nd round for being “cruel”.

College Football

  • In 1900 at the 5th Iron Bowl Auburn beats Alabama 53-5 in Montgomery.

Golf

  • In 1974 Bonnie Bryant becomes the only left-handed player in history to win an LPGA Tour event, she scores a 3-stroke victory in the Bill Branch Golf Classic in Fort Myers, Florida.

Hockey

  • In 1926 the Chicago Black Hawks play their first game, beat Toronto St Pats 4-1.

Miscellaneous

  • In 1869 Englishman James Moore wins first bicycle race, racing 13K Paris to Rouen.

NFL

  • In 1940 the Green Bay Packers become the first NFL team to travel by plane.
