Baseball

  • In 1951 Former Cubs 1st baseman and future TV star of Rifleman Chuck Connors is the first player to oppose the major league draft.

Basketball

  • In 1975 Calvin Murphy (Houston) ends NBA free throw streak of 58 games.

Boxing

  • In 1970 Joe Frazier KOs Bob Foster in the 2nd round for heavyweight boxing title.

College Football

  • In 1905 at the 10th Iron Bowl, Alabama beats Auburn 30-0 in Birmingham.

Golf

  • In 1990 at the 1st Solheim Cup Women’s, the US beats Europe 11½-4½ in inaugural event; Kathy Whitworth US captain; Mickey Walker Europe skipper.

Hockey

  • In 1984 Flyers’ Ron Sutter fails on 11th penalty shot against Islanders.

Miscellaneous

  • In 1979 at the 29th NASCAR Sprint Cup, Richard Petty wins.

NFL

  • In 1990 NY Giants beat Detroit Lions 20-0, to run 1990 record to 10-0.
