Our past has shaped the present by many things in history including sports, here is how sports marked our history today.

Baseball

  • In 1953 the US Supreme Court rules 7-2 that baseball is a sport not a business.

College Football

  • In 1932 MT. Union’s Joe Kershalla scores 71 points in a college football game.

Hockey

  • In 1977 Canuck’s Ron Sedlbauer fails on 3rd penalty shot against Islanders.

Miscellaneous

  • In 1989 the US beats Trinidad 1-0, qualifying for the 1990 world soccer cup finals, it was the US’ first qualification since 1950.

NFL

  • In 1978 “The Miracle at the Meadowlands”, Eagles Herman Edwards returns a fumble for a touchdown with 31 seconds left to give Philadelphia a 19-17 victory over their rival the New York Giants.

Olympics

  • In 1906 London selected to host 1908 Olympics.
