Baseball

  • In 1919 Red Sox owner Harry Frazee announces they will deal any player except Harry Hooper, Hooper is sent to the White Sox after 1920 season.

College Football

  • In 1892 N C Biddle beats Livingston 4-0 in the first black college football game.

Hockey

  • In 1981 Oiler Wayne Gretzky becomes the fastest NHL player to get 100 points in 38 games.

Miscellaneous

  • In 1937 German immigration officials with no explanation bar Juan Carlos Zabala of Argentina, the 1932 Olympic marathon champion, from entering Germany.

NBA

  • In 1956 Bill Sharman (Boston) ends NBA free throw streak of 55 games.

NFL

  • In 1991 the Bengals hire Dave Shula as youngest NFL coach 32.
