Our past has shaped the present by many things in history including sports, here is how sports marked our history today. Many believed that the boycott was in response to the U. S.’s boycott of the 1980 Olympics due to the Soviet Unions intervention in Afghanistan in 1979.

Baseball

  • In 1983 Reggie Jackson becomes the first major League baseball player to strike out 2,000 times.

Basketball

  • In 1976 the New York Nets beat the Denver Nuggets 4 game to 2 in the ninth and final ABA Championship.

Boxing

  • In 1905 heavy weight boxer James J. Jeffries retires as the boxing champ with a 19-1-2 record.

Miscellaneous

  • In 1845 over 50,000 people attended a horse race at Union Course in in Queens County, New York to watch Peytona of Tennessee beat Fashion the champ from the North.
