Our past has shaped the present by many things in history including sports, here is how sports marked our history today.

Baseball

  • In 1948 in front of just over 5,00 fans in Chicago Joe DiMaggio cracks four extra-base hits for the fourth time in his career while hitting for the cycle for the second time in his career lending to a 13-2 rout of the White Sox. DiMaggio would crank out two homers, a triple, a double, a single, and brought in six runs.

Basketball

  • In 1991 Chicago Bull Michael Jordan is named the NBA’s MVP.

Boxing

  • In 1964 in a bout for a spot on the US Olympic team Buster Mathis defeats Joe Fraizer.

Hockey

  • In 1975 the Buffalo Sabres overcome the Philadelphia Flyers in overtime to win 5-4 in the third game of the Stanley Cup Final, the game would be known as the “Fog Game”.

Miscellaneous

  • In 1930 the University of California dedicates $1,500 to research the prevention and a cure for athletes foot.

Olympics

  • In 1900 the second modern day Olympics opens in Paris, it would last five months.
