  • In 1993 Cleveland Indian Carlos Martinez hits a ball off Jose Canseco’s head for a home run.

  • In 1983 the LA Lakers set an NBA playoff game record of fewest free throws against the Sixers.

Boxing

  • In 1972 Joe Frazier TKOs Ron Stander in 5 rounds for the heavyweight boxing title.

Hockey

  • In 1988 the Edmonton Oilers beat the Boston Bruins 6-3 for a four game series sweep to win the Stanley Cup Final.

  • In 1894 Emanuel Lasker at the age of 26 becomes a World Champion chess player.

  • In 1956 American Althea Gibson wins her only French singles title by beating Angela Mortimer of England 6-0, 12-10 to win the Women’s French Tennis Championships.
