Baseball

  • In 1903 Boston Beaneater Wiley Piatt is the only 20th-century pitcher to lose two complete games in one day, falling to Pittsburgh 1-0 & 5-3.

Basketball

  • In 1997 at the NBA Draft Wake Forest power forward Tim Duncan first pick by San Antonio Spurs.

Boxing

  • In 1935 Joe Louis defeats Primo Carnera at Yankee Stadium.

Golf

  • In 1926 British Open Golf,  American amateur Bobby Jones wins the first of his 3 Claret Jugs, 2 strokes clear of runner-up Al Watrous; 5th victory by an American in 6 years.

Hockey

  • In 1993 NY Islander goalie Billy Smith elected to NHL Hall of Fame.

Miscellaneous

  • In 1991 Martina Navratilova wins record 100th singles match at Wimbledon, beating Elna Reinach of South Africa 4-6, 6-2, 6-4 in the 1st round.

Soccer

  • In 1994 FIFA World Cup, the 1,500th goal in Cup history scored by Caceres of Argentina.
