Our past has shaped the present by many things in history including sports, here is how sports marked our history today.

Baseball

  • In 1989 the Braves Dale Murphy hits two 3-run Home Runs in an inning, 14th man to hit 2 HRs in an inning. Also ties record of 6 RBIs in an inning.

Football

  • In 1933 the NFL divides into two five team divisions.

Golf

  • In 1987 at the US Open Women’s Golf England’s Laura Davies won the first of her four major titles in an 18-hole Tuesday playoff over runners-up Ayako Okamoto and JoAnne Carner.

Hockey

  • In 1997 NY Ranger center Mark Messier signs with Vancouver for $20 Million for 3 yrs.

Miscellaneous

  • In 1996 Americans Karch Kiraly & Kent Steffes win inaugural beach volleyball gold medal at the Atlanta Olympics; Kiraly first to win gold in both indoor and beach events.

Olympics

  • In 1984 the 23rd modern Olympic Games open in Los Angeles.
