Our past has shaped the present by many things in history including sports, here is how sports marked our history today.

Baseball

  • In 1933 at the first MLB All Star Game the AL wins 4-2 at Comiskey Park, Chicago, Babe Ruth hits the first All Star game home run.

Basketball

  • In 2000 Real estate developer Stan Kroenke announces the acquisition of the Denver Nuggets, Colorado Avalanche and the Pepsi Center for $450 Million from the Ascent Entertainment Group.

Boxing

  • In 2015 Floyd Mayweather Jr. is stripped of his WBO welterweight boxing title after failing to pay $200k sanctioning fee and vacate his two junior middleweight titles.

Golf

  • In 1931 at the US Open Billy Burke wins by one stroke from George Von Elm in a second 36-hole playoff, the longest playoff in tournament history.

Miscellaneous

  • In 1956 MLB Commissioner Ford Frick inaugurates Cy Young Award, to honor baseball’s outstanding pitcher of the season.

Olympics

  • In 1912 the V Summer (Modern) Olympic Games officially open Stockholm, Sweden, some events conducted prior to the ceremony dating back to May 5th.
