Our past has shaped the present by many things in history including sports, here is how sports marked our history today.

Baseball

  • In 1929 Babe Ruth becomes the first professional baseball player to hit 500 homers, gets number 500 off Willis Hudlin of the Cleveland Indians.

Football

  • In 1919 Green Bay Packers football club is founded by George Calhoun and Curly Lambeau, named after sponsor Indian Packing Company.

Golf

  • In 1991 at the PGA Championship, John Daly wins by three strokes from fellow American Bruce Lietzke.

Miscellaneous

  • In 1951 the first televised baseball game in color, televised on WCBS in New York City. Boston Braves beat the Brooklyn Dodgers 8-1.

Olympics 

  • In 1936 the Americans sweep the 3m diving medals via Richard Degener, Marshall Wayne and Alan Greene at the Berlin Olympics.
