Our past has shaped the present by many things in history including sports, here is how sports marked our history today.

Baseball

  • In 1915 Braves Field opens in Boston to see the Braves beat the Cards 3-1.

Boxing

  • In 1958 Floyd Patterson TKOs Roy Harris in 13 rounds for the heavyweight boxing title.

Football

  • In 1981 football running back Herschel Walker of the University of Georgia takes out a Lloyd’s of London insurance policy for $1 million.

Golf

  • In 1922 at the PGA Championship 20-year old US Open champion Gene Sarazen defeats Emmet French, 4 & 3 in the final.

Miscellaneous

  • In 1946 the Golf Writers Associaton of America forms.

Olympics 

  • In 1964 South Africa is banned from Olympic Games because of apartheid policies.
