Our past has shaped the present by many things in history including sports, here is how sports marked our history today.

Baseball

  • In 1967 the Yanks longest day, Red Sox take the first game 2-1 in 9 innings, Yanks win the second game in 20 innings 4-3, a total of 8 hours & 19 minutes.

Boxing

  • In 1885 boxing’s first heavyweight title fight with 3-oz gloves and 3-minute rounds is fought between John L Sullivan & Dominick McCaffrey.

Football

  • In 1935 the second NFL Chicago All-Star Game: Chicago Bears 5, All-Stars 0.

Golf

  • In 2004 The Tradition Senior Men’s Golf, Craig Stadler wins his final major event by 1 stroke from Allen Doyle and Jerry Pate.

Miscellaneous

  • In 1889 the first American International professional lawn tennis contest, being played in Newport, Rhode Island .

Olympics 

  • In 1920 American sweeps the medals in the men’s 100m freestyle at the Antwerp Olympics; Duke Kahanamoku sets world record 1:00.4 in defending his 1912 gold medal.
