Our past has shaped the present by many things in history including sports, here is how sports marked our history today.

Baseball

  • In 1922 catcher Butch Henline is first National League’r to hit three home runs in a game since 1897.

Boxing

  • In 1953 boxing’s NBA adopts 10-point-must-scoring-system, 10 points to round winner.

Football

  • In 1975 the first College Football Holy War, Notre Dame beats Boston College 17-3 in Foxborough.

Golf

  • In 1899 at the Men’s US Open Willie Smith wins by a comfortable 11 strokes from Scotsmen George Low & Val Fitzjohn and Bert Way of England.

Hockey

  • In 1960 Maurice Richard announces his retirement. He finishes his career with 544 goals, an NHL record at the time..

Miscellaneous

  • In 1991 the US women’s gymnastics team wins it’s first World Championships medal (silver).
