• In 1868 at the Men’s British Open, Tom Morris Jr. beats his father, Tom Morris Sr. by 3 strokes, at 17 young Morris remains youngest Open champion

• In 1952 1st closed circuit pay-TV telecast of a sports event

• In 1984 SF 49er Joe Montana misses his first start in 49 games
