Baseball

• In 1901 the National Association of Professional Baseball Leagues forms.

Boxing

• In 1923 Flyweights Gene LaRue & Kid Pancho KO each other simultaneously.

Football

• In 1994 San Francisco wide receiver Jerry Rice catches 2 touchdown passes and runs for another score in 49ers’ 44-14 rout of the Raiders, Rice surpasses Jim Brown as NFL’s career TD leader with 127.

Golf

• In 1925 the 29th US Golf Amateur Championship won by Bobby Jones.

Miscellaneous

• In 1987 John McEnroe is fined $17,500 for tirades at US Tennis Open.
