In a none conference doubleheader the Loyola Breakers hoped on the bus to Plains to take on the Trotters and Plains would pull off a pair of wins over Loyola.
Game one was tight dual between a couple of high octane pitchers, but it was a trio of errors that ultimately did the Breakers in. Trotter pitcher Kassidy Kinzie out on a display as she would pitch all seven innings, allowed two runs off four hits while striking out 10 batters and walked two. On the other side of the diamond Loyola ace Kayla Hickethier would stand tall in six innings where she she allowed three runs, not one of which was earned, and struck out 14 batters on 101 pitches.
Loyola sophomore Molly McHugh had her first chance in the pitchers circle for the first time in 2019 and the game would prove to be learning experience for the young Breaker. All 17 runs for Plains would come in the first three innings, with both pitchers settling in to blank the batters they faced in the final two innings.
Loyola will play a second road game Tuesday against Class B/C State softball defending champions Florence Falcons.
