The Glacier Wolfpack fought their way to a state title over the weekend in Great Falls. The Wolfpack would come into the tournament at the top of Class AA Boys basketball and they would show the entire league why.
Glacier would open their tournament against the fourth seeded West Golden Bears. With the speed of Caden Harkins and the tenacity of Jaxen Hashley the Wolfpack would handle the Golden Bear’s Demming brothers. Glacier’s 56-49 win over West would send them to the Semi Final game Friday night.
In the Semi Final round of the Class AA state tournament the Wolfpack would stare down the high octane Skyview Falcons. Skyview had slipped by the Sentinel Spartans the day before, pulling out a victory from the free throw line in the fourth quarter after trailing for three and three quarter quarters. The game would turn out to be a defensive battle with a half time score of 24-23 in favor of Glacier. In the end the defense of of the Wolfpack would stand tall and beat Skyview 48-40.
The championship game would be a test for Glacier as they would face the Bozeman Hawks who was anchored by a group of veteran players. Bozeman’s path to the title game was through the Flathead Braves and the fierce Great Falls Bison. The Hawks would handle the Braves with a 73-60 win and sent the Bison to the consolation round in the waning moments of the game winning 54-52.
Bozeman would fight muscle with muscle against the powerful Hashley, controlling the defensive side of the paint. The Wolfpack would struggle to get things going and find themselves fighting back from behind for much the game. It would be the lethal three point game of Harkins and the rebound play of Tadan Gilman that would give Glacier the edge in the final quarter and get the Class AA State Title with a 46-42 win.
