Sunday Recap 2-17-19

As February winds down we are down to boys and girls basketball to entertain us at the prep level and this past week started the postseason for MHSA basketball as district tournaments went down.

Girls Basketball
For the Valley Christian Lady Eagles it was an exciting end to their season as Valley Christian participated in the 13C District tournament. Going in with the sixth seed it was an up hill battle for the Lady Eagles as they had to face a polished Darby team that sent Valley Christian to the loser out side of the bracket. Getting a bye to Saturday morning the Lady Eagles had a chance to rest before they faced a talented Lincoln team, and with the needed rest Valley Christian earned a chance to play for third place later in the day, but fell against Clark Fork to finish fourth.

It was crosstown week for the Class AA schools with a trio of games starting off at Big Sky where the Lady Eagles played host to Hellgate and Hellgate was able to take the first step to a city title with a win. Hellgate was back at it on Thursday night when they took on the Sentinel Lady Spartans and for the second time in the week Hellgate picked up a win over a crosstown team giving them a city basketball title. The final girls game went down Saturday night at Sentinel were the Lady Spartans bounced back with a big win over the Lady Eagles to sweep the season series.

Boys Basketball
On the boys basketball court for crosstown week the Hellagte Knights would have an impressive week as the Knights would over run both Big Sky and Sentinel. First at Big Sky on Tuesday night Hellgate would strong arm the Eagles with the mercy rule kicking in the fourth quarter with a running clock. Hellgate would pick up their city title at home on Thursday night as the Knights dominated the Spartans from the jump to elevate themselves to a city title. Saturday night at Sentinel was all about the Spartans bouncing back before going into the final week of regular season play by drubbing the Eagles in front of a packed house.

The 2018-2019 season came to an end for the Valley Christian Eagles at the 13C District tournament as the seniors would play in their final two games of their high school career. Thursday night brought a match up with a strong Victor team and the Pirates would muscle their way to a win. Pulling a draw to Saturday morning the Eagles would take on Clark Fork in a game that Valley Christian was able to dominate for three quarters, but were out done in the final frame to finish out their season.
