The Loyola Breakers softball team hopped on the bus and took a trip down the root to play the Hamilton Broncs on Monday and Hamilton sent the Breakers home with a big loss.
Loyola ace Kayla Hickethier held strong through the first few batters from the mound in the opening frame, but with runners at first and second, and two outs, Hamilton’s catcher Kelsie Meis stepped to the plate and cracked one over the left field fence to put the Broncs on the board. The second inning was not any better for Loyola as Meis came to the dish a second time and with loaded bases slapped a stand up triple into right center field that put Hamilton up 7-0. Hamilton went on to add six more runs in the third to seal the win for the Broncs in five innings.
Meis led all batters going 2-2, with three runs, six RBI’s, and was walked her last at bat with a runner at first. Meis was joined by Caitlin Dillon who went 4-4 with three runs and two RBI’s to play runner up to Meis. As a team Hamilton went 12-25 from the dish and had 12 RBI’s, while being struck out five times. On Loyola’s side Carly Tipp and Charla Goodman where the only Breakers to register a hit, Tipp going 1-2, and Goodman 1-3, and as a team Loyola was held to 2-16 from the plate.
The Breakers will take a few days to regroup before hosting Plains-Hot Springs on Thursday.
