The Billings Royals American Legion baseball team made a trip to Missoula Wednesday to play a two game stand against the Mavericks in the top seeded Royals would take game one with late inning runs.

Missoula opened the game looking like the Mavs we all have come accustom too with stellar pitching from the mound and tactful base running that earned them a lead. Brendon Hill got the nod to open up on the mound against the hottest team in Montana Legion baseball, holding off the Billings batters in the first four innings. He was retired a third of the way through the fifth inning after the Royals scored three runs, and then things went down hill for the Mavs as Billings crossed home plate eight times in the sixth inning to take a commanding lead.

From the plate the Mavericks where lead by Sam Bucy who batted .667, brought home two runners, and was walked once. The Missoula offense would bat .345 while reaching first off a walk three times, and where struck out by the Royals pitchers for a combined four times. Tradd Richardson built on his RBI lead among the Mavericks with a single RBI, and James Martin padded his stats with a stolen base and a run.

The two teams will face off for the second game of the stand Thursday night with a seven inning game that starts at 5:00 pm.
