Loyola Takes Two Away From Stevi On The Soccer Pitch

On a balmy Tuesday afternoon in Missoula the Stevensville Yellowjackets soccer program took on the Loyola Sacred-Heart soccer teams at Rollin Field with the Breakers holding off Stevi 3-2, and the Rams coming away with a 4-2 win over the Yellowjackets.

It was ladies first between the two schools and the Breakers pressed the ball from the kick off, but it was the Yellowjackets that got on the board first. In the 28th minute Allison received a volley which she took down the right side of the field and chipped the ball over the Breakers keepers head to earn the first goal of the game.

Once again Loyola’s freshman mid-fielder Lani Walker took control of the game, finishing the day with a hat trick scoring a goal in the 22nd, 20th, and 19th minutes of the first half to put the Breakers in the lead. Loyola held the lead to start the second half and it would remain that way through the remaining 40 minutes as the two teams kept each other out of the goal, allowing the Breakers to cruise to a win.

In the first game of the season between the Rams and Yellowjackets in Stevensville Loyola started out with the lead and Stevi fought back for the win, on Tuesday afternoon the tables would be turned. Stevi went on the charge pressing the ball into the Ram zone, and in the 16th minute Ethan Post found the back of the net to put the Yellowjackets on the board first.

After Mirko Ferretti scored the second goal for Stevensville in the 12th minute of the first half to give the Yellowjackets a 2-0 lead Loyola Ram Austin Oglivie took over the game and scored four unanswered goals that sealed the door shut on Stevi. The Rams defensive backs held the line tight forcing the Yellowjackets to go off sides which resulted in turnovers in favor of Loyola.

Loyola will make the long road trip to Frenchtown Thursday afternoon for chance top play for first place in the West.
