The Loyola Sacred Heart Breakers tipped off their 2019 Class B State girls basketball tournament against the Wolf Point Lady Wolves and Wolf Point would move on to the semi-finals with a 54-44 win.
Wolf Point had the first chance at offense due to pulling down the opening tip off, but the Lady Wolves were not bale to get on the scoreboard until 6:36 left in the first quarter when Abby Juve hit a baseline jumper. Loyola jumped on the board two possesions later when Lani Walker found Sam Clevenger under the basket on a fast break. For the remainder of the quarter the two teams would recover defensively due to turnovers going both ways.
Through the sea of turnovers the Lady Wolves where able to come out on top to start the second quarter ahead of Loyola 11-8. Down three Loyola attacked the strengtht of the Wolf Point defense in the 6′ 3″ Imani Bighorn, but the Breakers attempts at the basket did not result in the Breakers success as the lady Wolves would allow one bucket in the opening minutes of the quarter, and and a second in the last 90 seconds of the second quarter.
Down 26-12 to start the second half the Breakers would get the ball and Walker would take to the ball to the hoop to get Loyola on the board. Loyola came out of the break aggresive on the defensive side of the ball to try and combat the Lady Wolves hieght, double teaming on rebounds on both ends of the court. Loyola’s efforts on the boards helped the Breakers match Wolf Point in the third quarter as both teams would score 13 points each on the quarter.
When the fourth quarter rolled around the Breakers had a 14 point hole to crawl out of and slowely Loyola worked thier way back into the game, getting to within eight with 5:36 left in the game. Loyola went to thier press defense to try and force Wolf Point to turn the ball over which resulted n the Breakers coming away with turnovers. Despite the Breakers efforts defensively Wolf Points second quarter run was to much for Loyola to overcome and the Lady Wolves marched a victory.
