In the first grls semi-final game of the 2019 Class B basketball state tournament the Florence Lady Falcons took on the Forsyth lady Dogies in a game that put the Florece in the Class B girls championhip game with a 59-37 win.
Florence would win the opening tip to control the ball to start the game with Joey janetski getting the Lady Falcons on the board on a put back after a rebound. Forsyth turned the ball up court to make a three pointer to open their scoring, but Florence’s MaKenna Liles matched with a three pointer of her own. For the remainder of the opening quarter the lead would swap between the two teams until there was 1:40 left in the opening quarter when the Lady Dogies stepped away from Florence with a five point lead. The Lady Falcons bouced back in the final minutes of the quarter and as the buzzer went off Florence’s Daniella Zahn hit a baseline jumper to make it a one point game.
Just as the first quarter had played out in the opening the two teams went back and forth until Forsyth came out with a five point lead. Slowely Florence chipped away at the Lady Dogies lead, starting with a free throw to start the Lady Falcons scoring in the second quarter, and then Zahn had a lay up off of a steal to make it a two point game. The game stayed at two points until 1:08 left in the half when Liles drained a jumper to tie the game at 18, the game would remain a tie at 20 as the half time break came.
Coming out of the locker room after half time adjustments the Lady Falcons stepped up their offensive play with Zahn scoring the frst six points in the third quarter. Forsyth started the third quarter on their heals as they turned the ball over multiple times, not gettng on the baord until 4:46 left in the third quarter. The Lady Dogies tried to chip away at the Flornce lead deep in the third quarter, but the Lady Falcon’s post players kept Forsyth off the boards which created fast break points for Florence.
Holding on to a commanding 38-27 lead to start the fourth quarter Florence lit the after burners and charged ahead of Forsyth. The Lady Dogies worked diligently to try and overcome their defeicit to the Lady Falcons, coming to with in seven in the first two mintues of the final quarter, but once again Zahn took charge and drained back to back to back three pointers to keep Florence on top. Seeng the victory in sight Florence would sub thier bench in with 1:49 left in the game and the Lady Falcons would score the victory.
