The Missoula Mavericks kicked off their play at the 2018 Dwight Church Tournament in Lewiston Idaho on Thursday with a game against the Southridge Bandits and the Mavericks would face the eight run rule in the fifth inning.

Things looked good for the Mavericks out of the gate as they would earn two runs in the opening frame, but the Bandits pitcher Ethan Rodgers locked in and stifled the Missoula batters. Maverick veteran James Martin and third baseman Tradd Richardson would be the only two players from Missoula who would get a hit and a run, while Dane Fraser and Brendon Hill each reached off a hit, Fraser’s bringing Martin home.

Southridge’s Jake Harvey led all batters going 2-2 with three runs and three RBI’s, with Brenden Tool going 3-3 with two runs, Harvey kicked off his game knocking one over the fence that also scored Wesley Hickman to tie the game at two a piece in after one inning.Rodgers stood tall on the bump going the stretch, only allowing two runs off four hits, one of the two runs was earned, and struck out one batter.
