For the fourth Wednesday night in a row the Missoula Mavericks and the Helena Senators meet on the diamond for a sunset game and for the third time this season the Mavericks came away with a win beating the Senators 6-3 in Helena.
Maverick pitcher Blake King pitched his first start of the season and picked up his first win of the season from the mound. King would allow three runs off four hits, walked three batters, and struck two in the five and a third innings he stood on the mound. Reilly Vetos came in part of the way through the sixth, and Vetos went on to stone wall the Senators in the two and two third innings he pitched before Mav manager Brent Hathaway sent Kaden Heidrick in to get the save in the final frame.
From the offensive side of the plate the Mavericks would go 7-33 from the dish with veteran outfielder Sam Bucy leading the way going 1-4 from the plate with a run, an RBI, and a stolen base. Third baseman Tradd Richardson added a notch to his RBI tally for the season with single RBI, making it 23 total overall. Missoula earned all six of their runs with two outs on the board, and Helena’s early errors that helped the Mavericks stay on top.
In the end it was the four early errors that Helena committed that would be to much for the Senators to overcome, giving the Mavericks their fourth win in a row, and pushing Missoula’s record to 16-7 overall. The Montana/Alberta Legion Baseball League will begin conference play one week from Sunday, and teams are beginning to find their rotations for the summer.
The Mavericks will host their annual Memorial Day Tournament this weekend to finish out non conference play with teams coming from Canada, Idaho, and two from Montana, one of which is the Senators. Get the full schedule for the tournament under the Coverage Schedule Tab, and get the live stream of all AA level games on the Mavericks Baseball channel all weekend long.
