Big Sky And Hellgate Split Crosstown

The Big Sky Eagles and the Hellgate Knights faced off Tuesday night in the final crosstown basketball games of the season between the two and the schools split the night with the Lady Eagles beating the Lady Knights 33-30, and the Hellgate boy’s revenged the girl’s with a 68-30 win over Big Sky.

In game one between the girls no one would score until 3:56 left in the first quarter when the Lady Eagles Sydnee Zanto dropped the ball through the hoop. Hellgate got on the board with 2:25 left in the first quarter, but Big Sky was already out to an early lead. The Lady Eagles held the Lady Knights to four points in the first quarter and five in the second while putting 17 of their own points on the scoreboard before the halftime break.

The Lady Knights came out with fire in their veins in the third quarter and out scored Big Sky 13-10, and the Lady Knights tied the ball game up with 3:30 left in the third quarter. Hellgate went on out score Big Sky eight to six in fourth quarter but Big Sky’s energy was to much for Hellgate and the Lady Eagles held on for the win.

The boy’s battled in the second game on the night and the Knights owned the game between the boy’s holding the Eagles to two points in the first quarter while putting up 19 of their own. Dylan Holst of the Knights rolled out 10 points in the first half to lead all scorers, and Abe Johnson came off the bench to contribute seven points of his own to aid Hellgate to a 39-7 lead at the half.

Big Sky came out the break with fire in their bellies as they broke the Hellgate defense and dropped 15 points in the third quarter, but Hellgates offense showed to be to much for the Eagles as the Knights scored 22 in the third frame. The Hellgate bench helped the Knight’s with the win contributing 15 points, and Hellgate had three players score in double figures on the night.

The Big Sky Eagles will hoist the Sentinel Spartans on Thursday in match up number two of the week between the three class AA schools, and the Knights will play the Spartans at Sentinel Saturday night.
