REPLAY

The second day of the 2018 Missoula Maverick Memorial Day Tournament saw players earn a cornucopia of runs, teams doubling up in the win column, and weather delays.

Butte Miners     2
Vauxhall Jets   10

Game one had the winner from the open game and a team that has shown signs of life to challenge the top teams in the state. The Miners put Braden Klobucar on the bump to open the game and the Jets went to work out of the gate earning runs in the opening frame. It was the third inning that doomed Butte as the Jets earned eight runs, knocking any hope of a Miner comeback out of reach. The Miners did come back in the fifth with a run, but the third inning was to much to overcome and the Jets picked up their second win of the tournament.

Northern Lakes   7
Butte Miners      10

In the second game of the day the Miners would have a second chance to earn a win on the day after falling to the Jets in the opening game. Butte was the aggressor out of the gate as they would earn a pair of runs in the first inning, and then followed with a run in the second. Northern lakes took a moment to find the scoreboard, but once they did they began to add runs through the later parts of the game. The Miners made it interesting in the sixth when they earned a run to make it 5-4 Northern Lakes, but Butte could not hold them off in the top of the seventh inning and Northern Lakes road off the win.

Bozeman Bucks   16
Helena Senators   10

The third show down of the day came between a pair of in state rivals, and the 2017 runner ups showed why they should be considered for another state Legion baseball title. Bozeman found their way on the board in the second inning to take the early lead but would need to fight back in the closing innings. With the game knotted up at one in the bottom of the fourth the Senators came out and slapped four runs up on the board to take a lead, but in the top of the fifth the wheels came off the bus for Helena and the Bucks went on to earn 15 runs in the final three innings to get the win.

Bozeman Bucks         12
Missoula Mavericks   0

For the final game of the day the host team would take on the hot team of the day and the Bucks came out in the same rhythm they had finished off the previous game. Bozeman came out in the opening frame and rolled through their battering order to earn themselves six runs. The Mavericks would not make it through the bottom of the first inning before mother nature had a say on the game and with flash of lighting and crack of the thunder Max E. Cannon JR. stop the game. After a 40 minute delay the teams retook the field and and the Bucks picked up where they left off and finished Missoula off with an additional five runs in the second inning. The game would be called in the fifth due to the tournaments eight run rule and Bozeman finished the day 2-0.
