The final regular season legion baseball game was played Wednesday night as the Missoula Mavericks hosted the Helena Senators on senior night and the Mavericks would rally back in late innings to finish the season with a three win streak.

Missoula celebrated their seniors Riley Vetos, Clayton Franke, Braden Jacobson, and Drew Leonard, and the retirement of long time concession stand operator Tom Roat who has been part of the organization for 23 years. Vetos picked up the start from the mound, Jacobson held down third, Franke maintained his usual spot behind the plate as the catcher, and Drew Leonard enjoyed the game from stands recovering from season ending surgery on both hips.

Both teams would throw a stock pile of pitchers at each other with the Senators Hunter Sickerson picking up the lose after trying to close out the game for Helena in the eighth inning. The Mavericks used a total of six pitchers against the Senators with Parker Stevens returning to the mound for an inning after taking over a month off from play to recover from a shoulder injury, and earned the win on the night. In the one inning Stevens pitched he would allow two hits and struck out two batters in the 15 pitches he threw, and went 1-4 from the plate with an RBI.

With the regular season in the books the Mavericks will head to Kalispell this weekend for the 2018 Montana/Alberta Legion State Tournament. Play begins on Saturday and the tournament runs through the first of August.
