In a win or go home game at the 2019 Class B Western Divisional Tournament Friday morning the Florence Falcons took down the Thompson Falls Blue Hawks 61-41 to stay alive on the consolation side of the bracket.
Florence came out hot after their loss to Loyola the day before, scoring 12 of their first 14 points from outside the arc, the other two came from the free throw line. It was the long ball that kept Florence ahead of the Thompson Falls in the first quarter as the Falcons would shot 71% from the three point line in the first frame, while finishing the first half at 46% from long distance.
Up by 15 to start the second half Florence went back to work on the offensive side of the court by controlling the tempo of the game by working the ball around the perimeter patiently waiting for the high percentage shot. The Blue Hawks made a surge in the fourth quarter scoring 18 points, three more then they had scored in all of the first half. Despite coming on strong late in the game Thompson Falls could not chip away at the Florence lead enough and the Falcons survived to move on to the consolation semi final Saturday morning.
