One of Missoula’s hidden gems is the Missoula Mavericks Legion baseball team which has a rich history of preparing young athletes for the next level and this year is no different.
Maverick lock down first baseman and stone cold pitcher Dane Fraser signed his letter of intent to continue his education at Yakima Valley College where he will join Dylan Chalmers in helping the Yaks on the diamond. Fraser is one of a handful of Mavericks from this years class who will get the opportunity to extend their baseball career by playing at the college level.
Having dominated first base in the 2017 season with chances to show his abilities on the mound, Dane was slatted to make his way into the permanent rotation as a pitcher in the 2018 season but suffered an injury a month in to the season when he tore his UCL against Bozeman. Dane talks about how the injury effected the process of being looked at by college teams, “You can’t go to any perfect games or anything like that, it’s kind of hard to get exposure when you have an injury.”
Fraser has recovered from his UCL injury and will return to the Mavericks for the 2019 season after finishing his senior year at Sentinel high school.
