Friday Night Gridiron Recap

Butte 43 – Big Sky 20

The number one team in Class AA football made their way to the garden city for a match up against the Big Sky Eagles on the Eagles senior night. Despite the Bulldogs getting on the board in the opening minute of play, Big Sky played inspired football with the score bouncing back and forth until late in the game. The Eagles made it a close game early in the third quarter, but Butte slammed down on the gas pedal to route the Eagles.

Capital 33 – Hellgate 28

Playing a special game at Washington Grizzly Stadium the Hellgate Knights played host to the Capital Bruins on the Knight senior night. The fifth ranked Bruins had their hands full with the surging Knights, giving Hellgate the advantage due to a missed extra point on the opening score. It would not be until the final minute for the game that the Bruins could turn the tide when Hellgate had a miss cue on the final two snaps of the game.

Florence 39 – Loyola 21

On a night that saw 15 seniors get recognized the Florence Falcons came to Rollin Field and put the biggest fight in the past 17 years. Playing behind an inspired quarterback the Falcons held off the Rams to maintain the lead, but Loyola’s Nick Mitzel’s never give up attitude kept the Rams in the fight. In the end it would be costly mistakes made by Loyola that gave Florence the upper hand that led to a history making win.

Sentinel 21 – Helena 14

On a windy night in the states capital the Sentinel Spartans looked take a strong hold on the third place spot in Class AA football against a Helena Bengals team that is trying to keep their spot in the postseason. The game would be fought in the trenches with defenses show casing their talents in a low scoring match up. With the game tied at 14 deep in the fourth, it would be a late game drive by the Spartans that put them on top to hold their ranking.
