Hellgate Girls Head To State Second Out Of The West

Playing in their first divisional championship game the Hellgate girls would take on the Capital Lady Bruins and the Lady Bruins came away with a 43-35 win over Hellgate.

Things started out slow for Hellgate in the opening quarter as Capital jumped out on a run leaving the Hellgate girls scoreless until there was 3:15 left in the first quarter when Peyton Arledge dropped a three pointer. From there the Hellgate offense began to flow as the Hellgate girls made it a close game due to the Lady Bruins turning the ball over allowing Hellgate back into the game.

Keeping the game close the two teams battled on the boards with the Hellgate girls winning the rebound battle 13-9 over Capital. With the lead swinging back and forth between the Lady Bruins and Hellgate, one team never getting more than three points ahead of the other the first half ended with the Hellgate girls on top 20-19 off of shooting 37% from the field.

With a close game at hand the Lady Bruins came out of the locker room and went on an 8-0 on a run to start the third quarter. Capital earned their points on the fast break after pulling down the defensive board. Hellgate climbed back into the game late in the third quarter when the Hellgate girls shooting began to drop through the hoop.

Capital surged back out to a six point lead to start the fourth quarter, once again controlling the defensive board, leaning on the fast break to out pace the Hellgate girls. Hellgate worked to get back into the game, but the Lady Bruin offense was to much to overcome and Capital finished the tournament as the number one seed.
