Hellgate Winter Sports Preview

Swimming

Going into the 2018-2019 swimming season the Hellgate Knights boys swim team has enjoyed success with four consecutive state titles, and six since the turn of the century. The girls have kept up with the boys with four straight state championships after not putting a trophy in the case since the 1988 season. The Knights lost strength and leadership from the boys and girls with graduation in the spring, but have a talented group in the under class swimmers who are ready to make their name in Class AA swimming.

Wrestling

With four wrestlers going to Billings to finish out the season in 2017-2018, and only one being a senior, the Knights can turn heads in Class AA wrestling with a youthful bunch in the 20198-2019 season. Hellgate is working on growing their team through adding numbers to a program that has the leadership to put the Knights on track for success. Bringing home a state title begins in the 2018-2019 season with consistency on the mat in order to draw interest to the program to add numbers.

Girls Basketball

One of the most exciting programs at Hellgate to watch is the Knights girls basketball team with a positive leader at the head coach spot that makes the game fun for players and fans alike. Over the past few seasons the Hellgate girls have been a team on the rise improving in each season played, and they made a statement at the divisional tournament last season. As the girls have gained ground in the Class AA West over the last five seasons and the 2018-2019 season will be another step to the top with the return of a solid group of tenacious girls.

Boys Basketball

Hellgate boys basketball is a measuring stick for all the other teams in MHSA Class AA Western Conference due to the Knights ability to reload each season with a fresh batch of players. The Knights have a strong upper class that has postseason metal which will be put to the test on a nightly bases due to their success as a group in the past. With one of the strongest starting five in Class AA basketball that has the ability to control the pace of the game, and a bench that stretches as far as the eye can see, the Knights have their best chance at a state title since the Tres Tinkle era.
